Any reviews on the Garmin nuvi 260 GPS?

admin answers:
Open answer, Garmin produce top notch products and have a reputation to uphold. You have probably found that there are lot’s of GPS units available but in reality they are pretty much the same.
It is just a matter of choosing one that you are comfortable with, the well known brands are what you should choose from like TomTom Garmin Magellan and Nextar. The imports are fine if you are budget conscious but come as a bit of a gamble.
Each Garmin product just increases in price relative to the included complexity.
Personally I usually choose these type of products on the simplicity to the user, all those bells and whistles tend to just get in the way and never get used by me anyway ![]()
Good Luck

Sandra asks…
Which is the better GPS system the TomTom ONE XL or the Garmin Nuvi 250w, I need reviews or comparisons on it?

admin answers:
TomTom ONE was the only one that I could find that allowed the user to plan an itinerary from any map point or address to any other map point or address. The Garmin units that I looked at could only plan from the current GPS fix. For instance, you are in a parking garage, but the unit was off when you entered the garage, so it has no idea where it is. If you want to plan an itinerary you just have to find your current location on the map or enter your current address in the itinerary planner function and then enter the destination address and the TomTom will calculate your route. It also has a pc interface that allows you to operate the device using your computer – much easier to do with a full size monitor, and a mouse and keyboard.
I often fly to different cities on business and pick up a rental car at the airport. Before I leave home I connect the TomTom to my laptop and plan my itinerary from the airport car rental (the car rental locations are pre-loaded for most major US airports) to my customer’s offices and then download the itinerary to the GPS. When I get to the car rental location I just turn on the GPS and follow the instructions!
The biggest flaw of the TomTom is customer service. Their web site is terrible. To register the device in order to get software updates you have to put in the serial number and your email address, but at the time that I bought mine they only allowed one serial number per email address. If you have more than one device (fleets, two car families) or if you have to exchange your device due to a problem you won’t be able to register more than one.
Www.cnet.com has lots of reviews.

I’m trying to figure out if GARMIN or TOMTOM is the way to go for a GPS!?
I’m going to get my husband a GPS for Christmas because he’s obsessed with map questing as it is but we don’t have a printer so then he gets mad that he has to write directions down lol. It’s a win/lose situation but I’ve read alot of reviews online about Garmin GPS products and TomTom products and am having a problem deciding between which brand to get! I’m looking to spend $250.00 at the most!
Anyone have either of these?Or know anyone that does!?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! THANKS in advance!

My partner and our daughter got me a Tom Tom One for my birthday this year and I love it. We had a satnav system in a hire car a couple of years ago on holidays and my partner she love it because she didn’t have to navigate. As always the more you spend the more features you get and don’t use my One cost about $150 CDN and it is pretty basic. It doesn’t announce the street names but it does announce turns and counts down distances.
They used to tease me about needing it in case I got lost in our small city but we have used it in a near by city and the girls took it to a close by large city for a girls weekend away from Dad and found it easy to use especially when I programmed their destinations into the beastie before they left. For them it was just a matter of picking their destination from a list and saying find the route.
As with most things people will fall into either of the camps and say theirs is the best. My advise is to get the one with the features you like at the price you want to pay. As I said mine is pretty basic and I like it that way.

Helen asks…
is garmin nuvi 350 or garmin c550 a better gps?
planning to buy a new gps , old one was c330 and its not working properly,.when checked ratings and reviews found garmin c550and nuvi 350 much compactible for my needs . now am confused to buy which one of these, please help me in solving this problem

admin answers:
The user interface on the two units is very similar. Nuvi 350 has several additional features like Audio Player and Currency Conversion, but the core UI and navigation is about the same.
Nuvi has a better receiver; it’ll get and hold a lock in more challenging conditions then C550.
There are dozens of different Nuvis. 350 was one of the very first. Depending on what you value most in a GPS, other members of that family may work better for you. For example, the 200 series trade some features for a lower cost and a less fragile antenna.

I own both the Nuvi 660 and the 760, I’m writing this review for people having trouble deciding between the two as the price difference between the two products at the time of this review is about 100 dollars. I’m not going to focus on the feature differences, as that information can be easily obtained from specifications and online reviews. The 660 was a fine product back in 2005-2006, but the new 760 outdoes the 660 in practically everything, but there are some key usability fixes that make the 760 a better buy for the frequent user.
1. 760 has much better fonts for street names than the 660. This may seem like a trivial update to some, but the 760′s fonts greatly improve visibility. The 660 uses all capitalized text for street names on the map, and the font is incredibly cartoonish and unaligned, something like the scribbling Comic Sans font on the PC. The 760 uses your standard Verdana-like font with street names in capitalized and lowercase letters. The fonts on the 760 are smaller, cleaner and surprisingly much easier to read while driving. The maps end up looking professional, and not some cartoony children’s video game.
2. 760 has better rendering in 3D map mode than the 660. In the 660 when you are zoomed in under 3D map mode, the roads close to your car are displayed incredibly large, so large that they run into other roads, making the zoom function essentially kind of useless for dense roads. The 760 does not oversize your roads just because you zoomed in to view smaller roads in detail. This fix is very nice for those who drive in places with dense roadways, like New York City.
3. No antenna on the 760 makes hooking up your Nuvi to the cradle one step easier. On the 660 you need to flip up the antenna before attaching the cradle. For people who park their cars on the street overnight, removing the GPS from the cradle for storage in the console or glove compartment is a must, and it’s a lot easier hooking up the 760 to the cradle than the 660. It’s hard to aim the 660 to its cradle in the dark as you have to align both the bottom edge and the charge port under the antenna. In the 760, the charge port is directly on the bottom of the unit; you can attach it to the cradle with one hand in the dark easily on the 760.
4. It takes the 660 a good 45 seconds on average (sometimes longer than 2 minutes) after boot up to locate the satellite on a cold start. If you have firmware 2.6 installed on the 760, the satellite acquisition time after boot up is between 10-20 seconds. After the firmware update, my 760 also holds a stronger lock to the satellites than my 660, I can get satellite lock inside my house with the 760, whereas I can’t get a lock with my 660 (adjusting the antenna does very little).
5. The ability to set multiple ad hoc viapoints on the 760 means it’s a lot easier creating alternate routes (very handy to avoid a specific interstate or a high traffic road). Whereas the 660 gives you just one viapoint.
